Repeating a whole, long email just just for a 4 word reply is why
top-posters don't see the value of in-line posting.

Amavis has been good to us so far, but clamsmtpd and spampd seem
simpler and faster. It would be nice to be configuring SA and
clam directly and to have per user spam settings.

We'd like to move to rejecting ***NOT*** bouncing mail at SMTP
time. Our reasoning is that it is better to reject an important
message so the sender knows to contact you than to silently drop
it to do the floor or the quarantine so the sender thinks you are
ignoring him.

By rejecting after DATA , we will not be sending back scatter to
forged senders

We understand that this means that we will have bursts of traffic
that will require higher CPU / RAM for scanning incoming messages

Sorry for the OT post but I know a few round here are well informed on
the storage industry.

I'm just about to migrate a bunch of PCs to SATA from IDE as the IDE
drive caddies are failing [0] and I already have my server and a few PCs
using SATA, what I'm looking for is a drivebay / backplane manufacturer
that has 5, 4, 3 and 1 slot internal bays available that use the *same*
tray / housing / caddie.

The tray / housing / caddie doesn't have to be rugged [1] or cover the
whole drive, it would just be *really* convenient to be able to move
drives around at will.

My search (below) hasn't helped much, has anyone round here got and
suggestions?

How about:

Hi

I have 2 problems in etch

1/ I use this url to install apache2  http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect_setup_debian_etch_p6
but don't know why port 443 is not working. https://ipaddress doesn't work but http://ipaddress is fine

the port 443 is listening in netstat -anp
Do I need to configure server.key and server.crt in it? which file?

2/ I follow the link http://kernel-handbook.alioth.debian.org/ch-common-tasks.html to compile the kernel. 2.6.18

final step dpkg -i ../linux-image-2.6.18_custom.1.0_i386.deb is ok too

When i boot up the new kernel, it said

cannot open root device "hda3" or unknow-block(0,0)
please append a correct "root"=boot option

Hi all,

I hope I'm writing to the right address to pose this question, if not,
please forgive me and point me to the right place.

I've recently discovered a wonderful linux game called Urban Terror,
staying to what wikipedia says, the game is fully released under GPL
licensing.

I'm wondering if it is possible to make a debian package and include it
at least in the "sid" release.
I can make the first-released package and help maintaining it (but I
can't maintain it alone), if someone can confirm me that this game is
debian-policy-compatible and it will be included.

Thank you all.

Gabriele

P.s. Please send me a copy of your replies, I'm not following this list
by now.

It's been a while since I used k-9 copy (a few months at least) but
I never needed that much space in /tmp. Poke around in the config
dialogs looking for references to /tmp and change that.

hm... it occurs to me that maybe you're trying to backup from one dvd
to another? And that's causing k-9 copy to want to store the file
temporarily, thus it uses /tmp. Why not just copy it directly to your

You normally don't need --reinstall, that causes the package to be fully
removed before reinstallation.

Please, help me! I have read much much about bluetooth protocol and
Debian, but from begin to now I cannot transfert my files from my PC
to my cell phone without grafical interface (gnome-bluetooth and
similar).

It's frustrating!

Now, I want and easy text-based way to trasfert one file PC->phone. I
think `obex' family is the right way, but despite
/etc/bluetooth/hcid.conf said NO, cell phone ask me a password (PIN),
isset on 1234, but it said it's wrong!

With grafical interface phone ask if I want receive file and then
trasfert start without
problems! Why?

THX!

A package like that would be near useless. For ndiswrapper there are
many GUIs, and for everything else there are drivers (ipw3945, for
example).

Do you want to control, or connect?

If you want to control you can always use mapping in
/etc/network/interfaces; But I assume you're looking for a GUI-type way.
In that case you may be interested in nm-applet (network-manager-gnome
is the package).

Hi

I have set my hard drive to standby after a given time through laptop-
mode. The hd actually passes to standby mode but only for half a
second or so after which it spins up again. If I issue hdparm -y /dev/
hda the same behaviour is observed.

I checked the logs inmediatly after this happens but found nothing
meaningful to me. As far as I can tell I have configured syslog.conf
in a way that log daemons will not sync after each minor event. I
deactivated some daemons to check whether they could be the cause
(lpd, cron, hal) but the problem persists.

Is there a way to track down what is accessing the drive? I found a
program called blktrace which seems to be useful in this situation,
but I'd like to hear from any other suggestions.

HI list,

is there a deb package for perl Time::HiRes?

For me part of the solution is to learn a programming language that
can do bitwise operations is a great start, C and pascal can
communicate directly to hardware fairly easily. Learning to program to
an old style parallel port can be useful, there are a ton of things
you can do with a parallel port. Very simply you can have 4 "address"
lines using LF FF Paper-out and online and 8 bits data. Use the 8 bits
data to turn things on and off and the address lines as limit switches

Could be. But your question lacks important details such as what exactly you meant by "everything is messed up", "standard shortcuts". Please be specific.

I fixed this by upgrading dbus from 1.0.2-1 to 1.1.1-3.

I am trying to pin down a general kind of problem occuring with a number
of applications on both Windozzzz and Linux. This is not urgent so look
at this problem if you have time or interest.

I am having a problem with a number of capture type applications one of
which is a Firefox add-on. But this is just one application I use as an
example as it looks to me like the same or similar kind of problem is
occurring to several applications running on several machines and I have
even experiences this same or similar kind of problem on both Windozzzz
as well as Linux OS platforms.

Here goes -- remember my firefox add-on which is a capture type
application is just an example. I think I might better understand the

When I try to add a new user, adduser is calling chfn in such a
way as to cause chfn to ask for the root password. Output from
adduser looks like this:

# adduser test

Adding new group test' (1010) ...
Adding new user test' (1010) with group test' ...
The home directory /home/test' already exists. Not copying from /etc/skel'.
Enter new UNIX password: (password for "test" supplied)
Retype new UNIX password: (password for "test" reentered)
passwd: password updated successfully
