You might wonder "I have some content that might be a candidate for topic specialization. What's next?" This tutorial walks you through the design, implementation, and testing of a DITA topic specialization. After reviewing some sample content and mocking up some DITA versions, you'll create the DITA specialization DTD, revise the samples to conform to it, and then test them by creating XHTML versions of the sample documents with the DITA Open Toolkit to make sure that everything is in place.

This second installment in the three-part series shows you how to configure HTTP basic authentication for your Web services and Web services client, and monitor the HTTP basic authentication information using the TCP/IP monitor. Check out the first part of the series for the initial steps.

Security Support for Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 to be terminated on March 31st

One year after the release of Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 alias 'etch' and
nearly three years after the release of Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 alias
'sarge' the security support for the old distribution (3.1 alias
'sarge') is coming to an end next month. The Debian project is proud
to be able to support its old distribution for such a long time and

Hi,

I've got an external hard drive with a Firewire / USB enclosure which has started causing problems for me lately. I'm running debian testing, with the 2.6.24+13 kernel (i think it's from unstable), and the drive is formatted with ntfs (i use ntfs-3g to access it).

Since a couple of days ago, when using USB for the drive, it fails quite frequently during reading/copying of files. Initially I thought that there might be filesystem errors or bad sectors, but running scandisk on the drive in "the other OS" showed no problems. Windows also had no difficulty copying the same files from the disk with either USB or Firewire. Yes - Vista successfully copying files, i was suprised :). Notably, scandisk is the only thing i use vista for these days.

The IBM Cell Broadband Engine (Cell/B.E.) Software Development Kit (SDK) has been updated. This article addresses what's new and interesting in the 3.0 release. The XL C compiler has been updated from 0.8.2 to 0.9.0. The GNU compiler has also been updated with substantial improvements to autovectorization. There is a workaround for one of the few known errata for the SPE (see Resources). The accelerator library framework (ALF) has been updated as well. There are some brand-new features such as Fortran (both PPE and SPE) and Ada (PPE only) support, and a linear algebra library.

10. Desktop icon mouse-hover highlighting does not reset correctly so several
may remain spuriously highlighted. No harm done. Hover over it and slowly
back off to reset.

11. Those rotate/resize subicons and such add little in may opinion--I would
like the option to get rid of them. They work in some plasmoids so if you
really want to look at it an some strange angle and size, enjoy. In my mind,
the right-click menu can take care of all of this and be less obtrusive on
the desktop--how often does one do any of this?

12. More older applets that can work:
kalsamix (substitute for kmix). Run first from command line and configure.
Ksensors (copy the older rc, run from command line first)
kboincspy (as I reported before). Copy the rc file. Run from command line.

Examine key parts of the Z shell (zsh) and how to use it's features to ease your UNIX system administration tasks. zsh is a popular alternative to the original Bourne and Korn shells. It provides an impressive range of additional functionality, including improvements for completing different commands, files, and paths automatically, and for binding keys to functions and operations.

Once one gets all installed, the real fun begins. My experiences.

1. It is very tempting to copy ,kde to .kde4 (the new directory) to keep all
one's settings. DON'T DO IT. Kde needs to start squeaky clean. Anything
untoward in .kde4 and crash bang.

2. It is possible to copy share/config/myapprc files and certain
share/apps/myapp/stuff manually once a kde4 session has succeeded. Kmail (not
yet upgraded) is an example. Konqueror is another but it does not work in any
event. Kaddressbook and others as well.

It would have been nice had some script for taking care of all this been
provided!

3. COPY .kde4 often. A crash, usually in changing GUI stuff, can blow the
whole thing up.

4. Kde3 programs can run in kde4. One can use knemo from the now emaciated

Hello list!

Has anyone of you succeeded in configuring Postfix, which comes with Etch, to limit the rate per hour of sent emails for each destination domain?

Thanks!

but of course, always check the datasheet before purchasing ;-)
and i saw one datasheet (don't remember which one), that explicitly
said "for blade servers" , therefore the crossposting, maybe someone
on debian-isp has experience with these disks
and if someone knows a supplier in the americas...

A typical UNIX or Linux machine creates many log files during the course of its operation. Some of these contain useful information; others can be used to help you with capacity and resource planning. This article looks at the fundamental information recorded within the different log files, their location, and how that information can be used to your benefit to work out what is going on within your system.

Using a Sony VGN-FS315 laptop, I have some questions about the tifm driver used to drive the memory stick reader. Upon insertion of a memory stick into the slot, the kernel responds:

tifm_core: MemoryStick card detected in socket 0:1

Presumably a second module will be required to create a block device for mounting. lsmod shows the tifm_core, tifm_sd and tifm_7xx1 modules are loaded. Is there an equivalent for the MemoryStick, or any other known way of convincing the driver to attach the card to a block device?

Hi
One of my friends has installed knoppix 5.1.1 on hard disk. When dvd was installed it was recognising all disks and mounting them also. After installation to hard disk, it refuses to mount the other devices than / i.e. the other ntfs, fat32 partitions. On inserting usb drives it detects the devices but doesn't mount them. (Apparently he gets an error like need hal for this). Seems to be an hal problem. Can anyone suggest what is the workaround for this?
