Bash setup in Deb 6

Forums:

I installed a 3rd party .deb package (Amanda 3.3.0). It created an amandabackup user with a home directory of /var/lib/amanda. I cannot get bash history, auto completion, or my cursor keys to work. In addition, my prompt is a mere "$". My main user has the username, working directory, and a "$". I copied my .profile,.bash_logout, and .bashrc files from my main user's home directory to /var/lib/amanda and that has still not solved it.

I found out about /etc/profile, /etc/profile.d, /etc/bash.bashrc, /etc/bash_completion, and /etc/bash_completion.d but have no idea how they are all supposed to interact.

Can someone help me get these features working?

Thanks!
