Hello, I could not connect with pppoeconf to the internet after the installation of Debian Squeeze, I downloaded the complete dvd and installed with dualboot. The weird thing is that before I managed to connect with the internet, with the same pc etc, with ubuntu 9.04, which by the way looked exactly the same as queeze....

I had to install pppoeconf, and I got an error message, that something was missing, but pppoeconf seemed to function normally after that. have an adsl connection, connected with ethernet cable to modem.
Here for the experts the outcome of the ifconf command.

========
Thanks in advance!!! By the way, after the installation I could not login to windows!! eventhough Debian Squeeze detected windows during the installtion, and I had not overwritten the windows installation. I had to go to an internet cafe to solve this, happily enough I found the solution in os-prober and then update-grub2.
But a very bad start for debian squeeze I must say.
Hopefully this problem can be solved too, I looked on the internet but could not found anything

Miguel

I don't know about pppoeconf, but you can manually setup ppp according
to this howto http://www.debianhelp.org/content/debian-squeeze-install-asus-eee-1015pem

Look for "manual ppp setup" section. Afterwards, you'll be able to use pon/poff scripts to connect/disconnect. Once you're online you can install Gnome, or just its network manager to help you with connections.

Just out of curiosity, did you have your windows installed in some non-standard way? I never had any trouble installing Debian as dual-boot.

Thanks for your help, the first week after your post it was unavailable for some reason.

The manual configure you linked too, seems to complicated to me, I can not just copy it because

I have a different modem and icp.

I have normal windows, and more people reported the problem of not being able to login after the installation.

If I do the pppoeconf, I get the message that there is a timeout, and in the end it suggests that

I check the cables (that is not the problem though), or that another proces might use the same proces.

In the right upper corner of the desktop there is this icon which says that it is working on the depositories...

it keeps on doing this, could this has to do with the problem?

I would like to use linux in a dualboot pc, but... so far no distribution works, either internet or sound

or flash give trouble, or the installation proces freezes (ubuntu 11 and joli os too)

I hope someone can help.
