Forums:

iso burned to disk and installed to replace xp.Install went well to reboot, after entering user name at Debian login, program would not allow any characters to be entered at password: A reinstall made no difference. Install was made via the graphical install option. Install made on older averatec with AMD Athlon XP-M 2200, 512MB DDR and 80gb HD. Four other distros crashed in midst of install. Suggestions?

I've never ran into than one. But one guess/thought: Is there anything odd/bizarre about your username?

It might be worth it to try it again using a "plain" username with only lowercase alphabetic characters.

This may be a silly question (and may not have anything to do with your problem), but what display manager are you using? Some of them don't echo anything back at the password prompt.
