microphone not working

lorfon's picture

Forums:

I just installed Skipe on my computer but microphone doesn't work. I think it's a problem with soundcard drivers because under windows everything works properly Sad
using alsa mixergui there is no switch for mic and I can't modify the capture fader.
Forgive my English and thanks!

Hmm, did you try alsamixer from console and then F5 for all the controls? Play around an report back the results. Also try to install other mixers, might help to find the lost control. This is how I solved my mic problem.

All the mixers i've tried show the same controls:master-pcm-capture-digital for realtek id 892 and nothing for ATI R6xx HDMI. This may help?

I am not sure what else to recommend. Have a look in my /var/lib/alsa/asound.state. Maybe there are some indications. I think the important settings are mic related and capture related entries.

Good luck

Re: microphone not working

changing connections I understood that the problem is that Linux doesn't "see" the jack plugs in front of the case at all. Skype works if I use the rear jacks, listening from the main speakers.
