Gnu Emacs 22: How to install info files?

Dear all,

I have installed Gnu Emacs 22 on Debian. When customizing the default
input method I clicked the link offered under "See also manual" and
got the error

Loading info...done
Info-find-file: Info file emacs does not exist

Why? Which package do I have to install to get the Emacs info?

Thank you,

Ulrich

Gnu Emacs 22: How to install

Very good question - I can't find it in the repositories either. I thought it might have been moved to 'non-free' but I've got the non-free stuff and it still doesn't show. I'd suggest getting it straight from the GNU sites - it's such a nuisance that you have to manage it yourself though. You should be able to find links from www.gnu.org.

Have a look at

Try emacs-snapshot

I'm running emacs 22 from Romain Francoise's site. Romain is a Debian developer, so I've always figured there's a reasonable chance the packages are good. And I've never had problems finding info files!
