Can't get Etch to boot on an Ultra 10.

Tags:

Hi,

Can anybody get anything with a 2.6 kernel to boot on an Ultra 10?

I have tried loads of distros, including Sarge, and they all work fine if not using a 2.6 kernel.

When I try a 2.6 based distro (Etch, Ubuntu Dapper), the install always fails at the "Booting Linux....." text.

Can anybody help?

Many thanks,

Chris.

Re: Can't get Etch to boot...

I don't understand your problem, Chris: you can use a 2.4 series kernel in an Etch install. Are you using the SPARC-specific base?

Jai yen, Thanks for taking

Jai yen,

Thanks for taking the time to reply. What I mean is that I can't seem to install any current distro (that is based on a 2.6 kernel). I would like to be able to do this. I do not want to have to use a 2.4 kernel, if I did, I would be happy with Sarge.

Many thanks,

Chris.

Hmm... Jai yen's my sig. Name's Seaslug. It's difficult right now to reply in a threaded manner (new site software). Red's working like a mule on it, and we need to help iron some things out.. maybe friendly suggestions?

Anyway,on to the problem. Contact Uwe...

Seaslug,

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, this didn't solve the problem. I am not able to do a network install (rarp etc), and the "ide=nodma" didn't work. Still stuck at "Booting Linux....". It looks like I may have to try an install of Gentoo.

Thanks,

Chris.

Still no luck :-(

Chris.

<Solved> sort of.

Removed the Creator video card and it boots fine. Seems to be an X0rg issue.

Cheers,

Chris.
