Can't compile source after install of new kernel using kernel-package

after installing a new kernel for my ibook g3, i noticed i do not have module need to install my wireless card. On the default debian kernel i was able to build the driver from source, and it works fine. But after installing the new kernel I cannot build from source anymore. I am pretty sure this has to do with confusion with the compiler probably not knowing where my build directory anymore, but don't know how to fix this problem. I am actually compiling the new kernel again, and have finally found the driver i need zd1211b and have enabled it. So maybe this time it will work. Without having to download the vendorbases driver from sourceforge and compiling it. But still worry if i need to compile from source in future i will not be able to

zd1211rw module in kernel does not work

No the module in kernel does not work. If anybody can help me or has had problems before trying to build from source after installing a new kernel please reply.
