Etch won't powerdown + battery monitor does not work.

I have a Medion MIM 2130 laptop.

When I installed Slackware and Zenwalk on it earlier it would power down correctly. However with debian when I shutdown (whether through gnome or with shutdown -h now) the screen goes grey and nothing else happens. I have to hold the power button down until it shuts off.

The other possible related issue is it does not tell me how much my battery is charging/discharging.

acpi -V shows Thermal and AC online/offline but not battery.

How can I fix?

Etch won't powerdown +

I'm running etch on an older Toshiba laptop. acpi -V shows:

No support for device type: battery
Thermal 1: ok, 36.0 degrees C
No support for device type: ac_adapter

But the system shuts down properly, so perhaps the lack of battery support isn't necessarily related. Are there any clues in the logs during shutdown?

I've had issues in the past with computers not shutting down. But these issues were fixed when when upgrading to etch, running the stock kernels.

As I was browsing through modconf for acpi related modules, I noticed the asus_acpi module with the description ASUS/Medion Laptop Extras, as well as ac and battery modules. Do you have those modules loaded?
