Problems in using gaim and mplayer

I've install gaim on my computer but i can not conect i just connect once, since then i couldn't gaim says that my account is disconected
besides i want to use mplayer but i can not see a thing just a blue screen,

Is qca-tls package installed?

Did you install mplayer properly? gmplayer is the graphical view for command line mplayer.
Does the command line mplayer work?

Which distro version are you using and from where did you install these packages?
(I hope you have not mixed the debian-multimedia and debian mplayer packages)
