Problem mounting ipod

Hi,

I am currently running debian lenny with the kernel 2.6.23 (from
kernel.org).

I am not ble to mount the ipod as I keep getting an error message

But, I can mount my key drive and memory cards from my camera without
any problems.

I also tried with the kernel from debian (2.6.22-3-686). Still, the same
problem. In fact, this behaviour is seen even under the amd64 port as
well as ubuntu (feisty) with the kernel 2.6.20-15-generic). But, on the
same machine, the ipod mounts without any problem with kernel 2.6.18.

Anyone else facing similar problems and has a workaround, please point
me to the relevant docs so that I can solve this.

Regards,

Hello. I'm trying to get an Etch box to read, open, or sync with an
ipod. I searched aptitude for ipod stuff, and blindly installed a few
things (libraries, a program called gtkpod), but, using gtkpod, was
unable to connect to it.

iPods on Linux are a problem but I have got mine working with gtkpod
after some effort. Unfortunately the gtkpod interface is not exactly
intuitive so I went back to the dreaded iTunes. I keep a minimal install
of XP purely to sync my iPods

That said, you need to create a mount point for the iPod and get gtkpod
to create the directory structure. It took me several tries to get it
working and it was not at all consistent. The gtkpod documentation is
not exactly helpful either.

Sorry to be so negative. Perhaps someone else has had more success.

Regards, Joe.

Amarok works quite well for me, it can transfer songs, podcasts, album
covers and even submit the listened tracks to last.fm. The catch is that
it will pull in a lot of KDE libraries when you install it (not a
problem for me, since I use KDE anyway).

Hope that helps!

I use Amarok as well. I don't have it up that often because it takes
quite a bit of memory and cpu footprint to run well. But just this
afternoon I had decided to give amarok another try and see if I can
get it to sync tracks to my iriver t30 (configure Amarok to use an mtp
device/plugin), and the upshot is that it seems to be able to, but
with some difficulty. I was at least able to send one file to the
device with Amarok, and it appears in a separate playlist, and I can
see some of the files on the device itself, but most are missing or
blank, as far as Amarok is concerned. The device is OK otherwise.

When I tried transferring one file (successfully, I found, after the
fact) this strange error appeared on the terminal I started Amarok
from:

PTP: Opening session
Unknown OPFF type 5

[2]+ Done amarok

Amarok does otherwise seem to detect the device fine, and tells me how
much free space there is on the device (and it's not a 'disk full'
problem).

I never seemed to be able to get gtkpod to work with my T30, and
although gnomad2 works, it is very slow to star up.

Probably pilot error. It needed a new battery :).

Amarok's transferring to the Iriver device successfully now. !!!!
