A package like that would be near useless. For ndiswrapper there are
many GUIs, and for everything else there are drivers (ipw3945, for
example).

If the system came with an OS pre-installed, use lspci (Or whatever the
Windows equivalent is) and write down all of the hardware. Video card,
sound card, wireless chip, etcetera. You will need all of this when it
comes time to install Debian, since Debian doesn't install a majority of
that by itself, and leaves it up to the end-user.

The problem starts mostly on Debian install party while all the area
is covered with Broadband wirless network (Thank you SCE for it)
There are not ethernet cards to connect to get the package from the net.
so i find myself creating a seprate disk with:
some kernel sources , lots of module source files
or Just 4 debian dvds (Just in case).
Since you don't know what you may need .

This is exactly what i can't affored myself (since on Install parties
you can't say: sorry mate your wifi isn't working we need to bring you
some more divers).

while with normal drivers (! Ndiswrapper) you can apt-get / wget there
you need to google for it.

P.s
on most Install parties / meetings we use allready created Wirelless
BroadBand Network or Ad-Hoc based .

How to install wifi card [newbe]

Hello,..

After really frustrating phone call (explaining how to get the wifi to
work on etch on ivtv card ) i started to wonder

Does anyone work on an automatic tool to recognize and build the
module (either with m-a or wget+make+make install) ?

I thought about biulding a package that will get _ALL_ wifi modules
(including Ndiswrapper) but will only install the relative module
using Lexical anlyzer from lspci (to get the name).

Any better ideas will be welcome.

How do you recommend to get ready for installing Etch (or lenny ) on
unknown pcs ?
