What is the recommended application for IP filtering/firewall these days?

Basic need is to just to filter connections on port 25 and 80.

I have decided that the best way to cut my spam influx is to just black list IP addresses that send spam. It will eventually end up with blocks of IP addresses unable to talk to my domain,but effectively,that will not be any loss for me.
