Dial Up ConnectionsI have currently been running debian 4.0 and i have been having a problem getting my machine to hook up to the internet using a dial up modem. I have installed a couple of programs like some kind of pppoe and some other type of ppp software. This did not seem to help me. I have looked at the manpage but did not understand it correctly. I need some help maybe a good place to start looking.Im sure it is a lucent win modem. And im pretty sure that my machine is just not installing or finding the driver.I am new to the whole switching to linux deal and still use to how simple xp is.I still am not sure on how the whole system runs and works. But i enjoy the challenge.

i finaly found that I had a win modem and that there not the best to use in *nix systems
Internal modems are another story, however. There are many so-called "winmodems" available now. In fact, it seems that most PCI modems are winmodems. Some of them do have drivers for Linux now, but many of the drivers are often binary-only. (See the note on binary-only drivers.) See Linmodems.org for more information on Linux-supported winmodems.
thats what i found out
