Screen ResolutionOk.... I am having some trouble with my screen resolution. My monitor will support 1280x1024 res and my vid card will support way more with no sweat. However, I have edited my xconf file to reflect this fact yet when I attempt to select this resolution in the preferences/screen resolution menu in X it doesnt even have that res listed as an option. I have googled up a storm and I have found a lot of things that are close but, really don't touch on the problem.... I am not sure if there is a hardware recognition problem.... or if I configured something wrong during installation but, there has to be a way to correct said problem without reinstalling...... any help would be greatly appreciated. |
Experiment
If you edited the xorg.conf file directly you should try to change some settings. Usually xorg does pretty good to get you started, but you may have to play around to fine tune your settings.
Encountered perchance a possible solution
Hi,
when I was searching the ubuntu forums for a problem on my sister's laptop a couple of weeks ago I came across the screen res problem. Apparently higher resolutions than 1024x768 are somewhat difficult to maintain with linux. I don't know whether the link will help you but as far as I know ubuntu and debian are close enough that the problem described could be related to yours:

Especially the two links at the bottom of the thread seem to be helpful.
