Single click results in double click in certain applications

Hey everyone, I know this is a Debian board, but I need some intelligent feedback rather than the swill I've been finding online with Windows boards.

Basically the mouse on my desktop has been registering a single click of the left button as a double click when I'm running certain apps. The ones I have observed this in are Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2, The Sims 2, and Photoshop CS2.

I want to say that my mouse is not the issue since it is only in these apps that I have noticed it, but I will be trying a new one later today anyway. So let's assume for the moment that the mouse is not the issue, what might be causing this?

My set up is as follows:

ASUS P4S800
P4 2.5GHz
768 MB DDR400
Radeon 9600XT
Linksys wireless adapter
Windows XP SP2

Any ideas?
