Weekend downtimeWe had the NIC to the server debianHELP runs on lock up Friday. This resulted in the site being down over the weekend (!). We're back up now, firing on all cylinders...

IntnsRed is taken to prison and judged to 15 lifetimes plus 253
During the days DebianHELP was down I started to be more and more nervous. I thought that the site has been taken out of business by the authorities for anti-american activity and that IntnsRed was taken to prison and judged to 15 lifetimes plus 253 years. I'm glad that wasn't the case.
But IntnsRed aren't you little worried about all those copyrighted articles that get published here? If I was responsible for the site I should ban that for my own sake. As a reader I think it great to read all those articles here. But as the pessimistic soul I am I think that sooner or later some copyright owner will find them and react.
Keep in mind: Title 17 U.S.C. Section 107
its not that simple to define copyright violations:

However, under the USA PATRIOT Act anything could happen to anyone...

Me too!
I've had that worry before too. I remember when the site went down after a particularly fun week of anti BuSh sentiment, and the thought crossed my mind. And it's also for that reason I prefer to provide links to articles rather than cut'n'paste.
Still, in this Brave New Era of capitalist debianHELP, my first concern was my zorkmids. Don't take my precious zorkmids!

would you prefer links?
Well, if you guys think links are 'safer' I will gladly oblige, but my personal opinion is that is is much more pleasant to read the article directly rather than following a link to an outside site (not to mention that I always 'clean up' stuff that I post of things such as multiple pages, ads, etc.).
IntnsRed - what are your preferences? (is he going to answer this time...?)

No - someone just destroyed
No - someone just destroyed the network card using 1000 mobile phones.
Re: Copyrighted articles
Not really, for several reasons.
There are huge, widely popular "news aggregator" sites that do this exclusively. IMHO, if there is a crackdown, they'll feel it first before a geeky site where the articles are just FYI and conversation starters and a small portion of the site.
But more importantly, one of the very few areas of copyright law in the US that has not (yet) been gutted is the "fair use" concept. Articles used here do not have 1 cent of a "commericial" angle to them and are only for educational and discussion use. That should fall nicely under fair use.
If some copyright holder objects, hell, just let me know. I'll happily remove something -- and then mock them mercilessly after its removal. :-)
Let's go on like before.
After that I read vees link I understand that you laws are less restrictive that the Swedish ones then it comes to copyright and written stuff. And I fully agree that reading the articles here are much better than linking to them. And because IntnsRed feel safe let's go on like before.
ok - but let me know if this becomes tedious ;-)
ok, for the time being I will continue posting stuff of interest I come across elewhere, but let me know if this becomes too distracting from the main purpose of this site (-: or if I get waaay too many underserved zorkmids :-)
Cheers!
