Assist Requested: ACPI Exceptions and Errors

Completely new to Debian

Immediately upon boot, getting these errors and exceptions repeatedly, every 30 seconds or so.

Jan 10 09:15:13 vaio kernel: ACPI Exception (evgpe-0576): AE_NOT_FOUND, While evaluating GPE method [_E09] [20060707]
Jan 10 09:15:28 vaio kernel: ACPI Error (psargs-0355): [\_TZ_.ATF0] Namespace lookup failure, AE_NOT_FOUND

...but, you know -- with different date time stamps.

Just installed on a Sony VAIO slim notebook, PCG-505TR - 300MHz Pentium MMX, 128MB RAM, 60GB storage.
Linux vaio 2.6.18-5-486 #1 Mon Dec 24 16:04:42 UTC 2007 i586 GNU/Linux

Suggestions how to fix? I know I can suppress ACPI with boot options, but I'd like the power monitoring features to work.

Also --- Is there a command to turn off the laptop display entirely? The BIOS is supposed to turn off the display on lid close, but it doesn't appear to be doing so. Can I do it from the CLI?

Thanks in advance.

Can't help with the messages, but a great site for getting the power management features working is here:
