Congressman says Bush cannot be impeached because he'll declare

This is an eye-opener. (YouTube link.) The link is to a YouTube video clip; it's short, only 3 1/2 minutes (so it should be tolerable even over dial-up).

The clip is of a Ralph Nader speech where Nader quotes US Representative John Olver (D-MA, who also has a PhD from MIT) who bluntly says that if impeachment hearings are started that Bush will declare martial law and then postpone the 2008 elections.

Nader notes "things are a lot worse than we thought".

Could Olver's view -- along with the 2001 anthrax mailings (which, remember, happened to only Democrats) -- be a key reason for the spinelessness of Pelosi and the Democrats?

Probably?

The washington post (aka whitehouse fax machine) says this about the stou address

"That is the problem Bush faces as he prepares to deliver his seventh and probably final State of the Union address tonight".

Forget Bush. Next year you could be on the streets.

The Democrats are doing what their masters want just as the Republicans are. Our masters are pleased with the performances of both the President and the Congress.
It's the way it's always been and always will be.
Someone has to rule and the masters chose republicans and democrats to bend the populace to to the oligarchy will.
The independents, such as Ralph Nader, are just window dressing to give an illusion of self government.
When the economy falls apart next year all these concerns with Bush and the war will be forgotten as we struggle to survive in a world of Chinese competition.

Forget Bush. Next year you could be on the streets.

As per your subject, while that's a possibility, I doubt it -- I cashed out at the peak of the housing bubble and moved into affordable housing with an aim of being more self-sufficient. Hey, there are some upsides to being a contrarian news junkie. :-)

But as to your point, I agree. I think there's two kinds of Democrats (and this is true of politicians in general): the willow reeds who know how the system works and are willing to bend whichever way the wealthy wants them to; and then the more principled (or naive) lot -- those who actually believe the propaganda we're fed and who are shocked when things aren't really what they're portrayed to be. Is Olver one of the latter? Perhaps...

Yes, the rich, the elites, the ruling class -- whatever you want to call 'em -- are pretty much on board behind Bush. In some ways, that's logical, given the dire straights the US economy is in (and I'm not talking just about the recent "recession" talk -- there are much more fundamental problems).

Those elites cast their lot in with the neo-cons' grand plan to control the world's oil supply and thus keep the US dollar's petrol base/footing. They're in deep and obviously think it's too expensive to turn around now...
