Problems with hda lost interupt

Tags:

Hello, I have done some of my own digging on google and a few other places in order to found out as to why I am having problems with an hda lost interrupt. I am currently running Debian 4.0 i386 (no idea why the AMD64 version will not load). Initially I had an IDE drive in my debian box, and I read that ASUS cables were notorious for causing problems. I swapped out the cable several times, but to no avail. I tried a few other things, but it yielded the same results. Then suddenly my drive failed and I found out the answer quickly. Turns out that a faulty powersupply fried my motherboard and killed the drive.

Since then, I have completely upgraded my box to an AMD64 4200+EE X2 CPU with an ASUS M2V-MX board, a stick of 2GB PC2-5300 DDR2, a 250GB SATA drive and a brand new 350W enermax power supply. I didn't bother spending any money on a video card since I wanted to spend the least amount on the box. Plus, the board I have has an integrated one. I thought that the problem with the hda lost interrupt would no longer exist, but unfortunately it has come back to haunt me with all the new hardware. It seems to only occur once in a while - maybe once in every 10 boots or so. My question is since I am using a SATA drive why am I getting an hda lost interrupt? Isn't SATA sda? Also, with the current setup that I mentioned above, I imagine that I have plenty of power... or am I under powered? Thanks in advance.

You are right. The SATA drive should be showing up as /dev/sda. Is the cd or dvd drive ide? Maybe that is the source of the interrupt problem. You can check the contents of /etc/fstab to sort out how your drives are set up.
