modconf not working

Modconf is not working for me. I call it and it just stays there waiting for something. the curses interface never comes up. What can be wrong in my machine configuration??

I'm using Lenny...

have you configured your modem. this error can happen if the modules are not loaded. which is the modem that you use? pls post the output.
