Xsession: warning: unable to write to /tmp; X session may exit with an errorHello, It's been a while since I've posted here. I have a problem after being forced to CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE out of KDE because one of the kid's games froze the screen/computer. The KDE login screen came up after the above key combo, I entered the password waited a few seconds and an X message box came up containing the above message. Only one button to click "OKAY" returns to the login screen. Haven't a clue what to do about it. No other error message appear. Same error occurs when trying to use any session type available. Happens even after rebooting the system. P3 - 660 256Mem Running latest Debian (etch I believe) System, althought a bit slow, has performed extremely well so far. Any help or hint on how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |
Re: Xsession: warning: unable to write to /tmp; ...
Some people report this problem as a consequence of a full partition. Type "df" too see if your partition is full. You could try then to run "aptitude clean" (as root) (this will remove cached packages) to decrease the amount of storage used.
Re: Xsession: warning: unable to write to /tmp; ...
Thanks for the reply,
I normally go directly to a graphical login for KDE. How can I go into terminal from the login screen or what can I do to get to a terminal to log in? ALT-F1 to F7 do not work at this stage.
I did do an apt-get update/upgrade and did install some software the evening before this occured. Maybe it filled one of my drives. I'll try tonight when at home to do this and report back.
Thanks again
Nick
Re: Xsession: warning: unable to write to /tmp; ...
When you are at the login screen use the ctrl+alt+f? combination instead of just alt+f?
