Network card don't work after unplug/replug

Hi all,

since monthes I have a little problem with my integrated Ethernet nVidia (forcedeth):
if I unplug the Ethernet cable, I don't have any ifdown event. Not a problem for me. But the network don't restart if I plug back the cable. As if the lack of cable is detected (but not mentionned by the system) and nothing is done when I reconnect the cable.

This is anoying because if I shut down my ADSL/routeur I then have to reboot my computer. If I change something into my cables then I have to reboot my computer, and so on.

Tested with a D-Link 530TX and everything is okay. ifup/ifdown are generated, unplug/replug is okay.

Is there a way to:
- either act as if the cable is ALWAYS connected (even if not, as with Windows 98) ?
- either generate ifup/ifdown event ?

'udev' should be generating events and I'm pretty sure you can edit the udev files to do what you want. However, you can also install "ifplugd" which should do what you want (and it saves you from scripting udev).

Also there is no need to restart machine. just restart networking /etc/init.d/networking restart. Check if ifplugd does the trick first.
