Eth0 mysteriously quits in Etch

Hi Folks--

I just made the switch a few weeks ago from SuSE 10.3 to Etch, as I wanted the rock solid stability that Debian is renowned for.

The transition has been mostly a smooth one and I'm largely happy. However, I have a problem staying connected to the internet.

I'm using a Marvell Yukon ethernet adapter (onboard the Asus A8V Deluxe motherboard). It's in turn connected to a Linksys WRT54G router, which is plugged into a cable internet hookup. My kernel is 2.6.18-6-k7.

The problem seems to occur when running Ktorrent and trying to have more than one or two file transfers going. I thought that it might be too many connections so I tried reducing the number, but no joy. The connection just stops, and I cannot even ping the router. Stopping and restarting the network does nothing; the only thing that will restore connectivity is to reboot.

This did not occur under identical conditions and hardware with SuSE. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance......

Re: Eth0 mysteriously quits in Etch

Do you know which module it uses?

I think I may have the same chip in a computer at work (not sure since I've disabled it in the bios). I gave up on getting it work, but that was before Etch was released, so it may not have been supported in the kernel I was running at the time.
