ThemesI am trying to install a themes in GNOME. It seemed easy enough but either I am not d/ling the right thing or I am doing something wrong. I took a couple of themes from gnome-themes.org and when I try to install it it says invalid file format. I tried all the files but nothing works. I am just going to Desktop-Preferences and Themes. I then select Install theme. I am running GNOME 2.14.3 |
Re: Themes
Don't you mix a GDM theme and a MetaCity Theme?
A GDM Theme is for the login page (that's GDM), and those are on the first page when you open gnome-themes.org (at least when I did).
MetaCity is the window-manager, and is how your windows and taskbars look (eg color, type of border, appearance of the buttons etcetera).
I do have a few themes installed on my own system, but I added those with aptitude (they are called gnome-themes and gnome-themes-extra). Also available: gdm-themes and metacity-themes.
If you install them via aptitude/apt/synaptic, they will also be updated when a new version becomes available..,,
