I have a intel pentium 4 i think thats x86 family but i dunno. And its a dell computer with logitech cordless desktop. (my set point functions dont work thats okay their friggin pointless...)If i want latest distribution how do i tell? if i install i'll be using a 1 gigabyte flash; but i couldn't really understand the intructions. I have this file called boot.im.gz but thats all. umm yea i pretty much need someone who knows what this whole deal is then i can figure it out.

Re: Just installed from goodbye-microsoft.com

Use:

aptitude update

to update your file list, and

aptitude upgrade

to do an actual upgrade.

If you have a decent apt config, your distribution will be updated to the latest version.

HOWEVER:

If you are running of a flash drive, you need do reduce the WRITE access to the drive as much as possible, otherwise your flas memory will wear out very quickly!

You need to create a ramdisk, and do all the tempfiles to memory. Same for other volatile data.

A special flashdrive distribution will do almost all in memory, and will save once when shutting down/logging off, or when manually instructed to do so.
