CD format > flac how-toHi, I love the quality of the "flac" format. I was wondering, is there a tool that I can use to rip my CD's, inn flac format? Cheers, Chris. |
CD Ripping
Two tools I use--from the command line abcde rips to flac by default and is pretty easy. Type 'abcde' and it will most likely Just Work.
On the GUI front I've also used grip, but you may have to change the default output format.

Konqueror for CD ripping!
Yep! Konqueror rips CDs very well. Here is what you need to do.
Make sure your desktop shows the CD icon as soon as the CD is introduced into the CD drive. Then click on it. This will mount the CD and offer you a very interesting number of options including CDA, FLAC and ogg. In the 'Full CD' directory all these files will be offered as one large file.
All you need to do is select the files you want and copy them to wherever you need them and, voilà, your rip will start.
Grip does not, as far as I know, offer the option of ripping an entire CD into one seamless file - Konqueror does! Depending on the music you want to rip - this can be very useful.
