Installation fails, dvd based install

With the cover dvd of Debian etch I have, from a linux mag, the install consistently fails, at the same point.

Seems that my wireless network card is not supported by the installer, and the installer will NOT continue without a network device.

The laptop only has the wireless network card.
[ the open source Ralink chipset and drivers do power the card, at least with the LFSLivecd, Mandriva, Suse and Fedora they do. ]

The Dell Inspiron 3000 is picky, slak, gentoo, centos refuse to boot into the install even.

The real question here is:
Why does the debian install require a network device when it is being installed from a dvd?
if the network device is required, why doesn't the installer support all network cards that have open source drivers?

Re: Installation fails, dvd based install

have a look at my last post here: http://www.debianhelp.org/node/13047
It seems to be a similar problem to me. You should be able to install from your current disc withouth a networkcard though, when presented with the list of possible drivers, select 'no network card' or something similar..

Good luck.
