Place to upload code or other text files

Tags:

I can't figure out how to get html to look good when posting. Basically, the website adds additional formatting to existing html or bbcode, and there is no guarantee that they will play nicely together. Over at technocrat.net, there is a check box to "turn off the fancy editor". I haven't tried posting anything other than simple links over there, but maybe a similar idea could work here.

Another approach would be to provide a place to upload plain ascii files (similar to the place for uploading images).

Re: Place to upload code or other text files

Sorry I've been so long to reply to this.

Yes, this theme does some odd things to posts, unless you go with full HTML formatting (try playing with the "Input format" types).

But with that said, I'll tweak things and will turn on an option to attach files and double check the "code" and "tt" (etc.) HTML tags to make sure they're enabled.

Re: Place to upload code or other text files

I don't know if this is a recent change to the site or not, but now in user blogs "txt" is listed as a valid extension. So I copied the shell script buildm3u to buildm3u.txt, and tried to upload it. I received this message:

Quote:

The selected file buildm3u.txt can not be attached to this post, because the disk quota of 1 MB has been reached.

Since the file is only 6k, does that mean that I have other files uploaded which are using up my 1 MB disk space quota?
My only other upload was a 56K png file, so this error message may be indicating some other problem.

Re: Place to upload code or other text files

Ok, I'd try your suggestion to try playing with the "Input format" types, but I don't know how. That is, how/where can I select "full HTML formatting" for ordinary posts.

So far I've tried attaching html or txt files. Today, it partly worked, but the attached file showed up as 0 bytes (so that when I click on it, it opens a blank page).

Ideally for code, I would post full html in the body of the post, with a plain text attachment. But if only one or the other worked, that would be fine because people could either download the file or copy and paste it from their browser.
