Sarge Update Question

Hi all,

It's been awhile since I updated my Sarge (3.1) system. I noticed that recently Sarge's stable tree was updated for the final time, see http://www.debian.org/News/2008/20080413 for details.

I was wondering what lines I need to have in my /etc/apt/sources.list to get up to date on all the Sarge packages and security fixes.

I'm in the U.S. FWIW if you can point me to the right mirrors and specifically the correct "deb http" and "deb-src" links for the above updates.

Thanks,

boomswitch

Re: Sarge Update Question

What's in your current /etc/apt/sources.list ?

Usually all you need is to update the archive list:
apt-get update

And to install all the replacements:
apt-get upgrade (sometimes dist-upgrade is needed if a few too many packaging changes were made)

Of course if your sources.list file uses 'stable' and you want 'sarge', you should change the name to 'sarge'.

No one knows where you are, so you'll have to find your own mirror:
http://www.debian.org/mirror/list

Not all mirrors are reliable, but you can figure out which one works best for you by trial and error. The mirror list usually has a few notes like "if you live on the east coast, you can use this one".
