Scraping the bottom: Viacom/CBS plays the race card with segregated "Survivor"

If you thought the corporate mass media functioning as an arm of the Bush propaganda machine was not bad enough here is something that will really make you sick!

Since the lame "reality" TV shows are declining in popularity Viacom/CBS has decided to scrape the bottom of the barrel to breathe new life into the genre. The Viacom/CBS show "Survivor" will now segregate teams of contestants by race. Blacks will be competing against Caucasians against Latinos against Asians etc.

Protest this blatant racism! There are many boycott and letter writing sites that are popping up to let corporate America know that we are sick of their divide and conquer tactics.

Will the younger generation be so stupid as to lap up this crap? It's only about the end of the second world war when there have been major changes in society and people can accept other people just as they are, without the "I'm superior because of my color" bit. Anyone who goes for this crap out to be hung. (Any bets this will be a skinhead favorite?)

Not funny. Shows like 'Big Brother' have made money off the crudest human behavior, and now this. I hope the Panthers get the executives for this one - they certainly deserve it. What sort of desperate lowlife contestants must they have to go for a chink-vs-spic-vs-nigger-vs-whitey plot?

In many ways, this is to be expected. The powers-that-be are feeling threatened. The economy is in such a bad shape that even the cooked unemployment numbers and other "official" stats cannot hide its weakness.

The US is losing wars in both Afghanistan and Iraq, and Bush's only plan is to launch another war on Iran.

The Congress tried to play the tried and true "immigrant card" a couple of months ago. If you look at US history bashing immigrants in times of economic hardship is a standard response by US elites. That tactic has worked for over 100 years. Only this time the immigrants (and even Big Business) did not play along as they were expected to.

Playing the race card is just a similar ploy. It's the old "divide and conquer" tactic that US elites have been using forever.

If the race card doesn't work, expect to hear more about welfare queens, queers getting married, etc., etc. -- anything to keep you from noticing the man behind the curtain.

How come no one complained when it was the young and old segregated? I guess everyone wants to be young.

The problem is, that rubbish will reinforce the beliefs of what is currently a minority. There are still many places in the USA, even the north, where you get "we don't serve your kind here". I guess you expect rubbish like this when no one wants to pay for the production of a decent show - so much easier to film losers and get even bigger losers to watch it, but this crap just makes people think that this stuff is acceptable. Well, we still have a lot of issues - the injuns are still third-rate citizens, largely cooped up in the reservations and not given a decent education. But we musn't talk about them - we have more important things to do like dole out money to the munitions manufacturers and start wars all over the world. How soon until we see Bay of Pigs Part 2?

As a person with Cherokee ancestry, I would like to thank you for your excellent example of Limbaugh racism. Along with Rush, you have taught people what not to say.
Hatred for a group of people is wrong as you have stated in your post. Hatred is wrong for all including Native Americans and Jews and I thank you for your opposition.
