GMT vs. local time on the Xfce desktop panel clock

I'm new to both Debian Etch and the Xfce desktop. On my system the DATE command displays my correct local time, properly accounting for both time zone and daylight savings. However, the time displayed by the clock on the Xfce main panel appears to be GMT. What can I do to get the clock to display local time?

Thanks for the help!

Re: to view or open file extension .deb (OS is Win-XP sp2

Why are you downloading *.deb files onto a WinDos machine? That just doesn't make sense - those files are package files for Debian, which at the moment means either Linux, HURD, or FreeBSD (but mostly Linux).

To view the contents of those files, you need the following UNIX tools:
ar
tar
gunzip
and possibly:
bunzip2

Re: GMT vs. local time on the Xfce desktop panel clock

Can you right-click on the clock and set the display preferences?

Re: GMT vs. local time on the Xfce desktop panel clock

Yes I can, but GMT vs. local is not a selection. However.........

This is no longer an issue for me. After posting this item I moved on to other things. When I checked the desktop again about 24 hours later the clock was displaying local time! Very strange!

Re: GMT vs. local time on the Xfce desktop panel clock

hmmm ... maybe you made changes which required a restart of the Gnome clock. Oh well, if it's working, you probably don't want to dig into the details of what went wrong - configuration can be a nightmare at times.
