apt-get upgrade -u issue (newbie question)How's it going... I'm a new guy and promise to look for the answer before asking in this forum first... I've been looking for two hours now, so short of putting my fist through the monitor here goes... So I installed etch 4.0 using a just the first CD downloaded from the website and followed the instructions on the installation page of the aboutdebian.com website... Everything was going great until I was following the instructions on the packages page of the aboutdebian.com website. I entered the "apt-get update" command and it ran ok. Then I ran the "apt-get upgrade -u" command. About halfway through updating I got a page saying that I would have to reboot soon because some files would not work after the upgrade, or something to that extent... Now when I reboot I get a screen giving me: Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.18-6-686 What, if anything did I mess up by doing the "apt-get upgrade -u" command? also I tried starting over by doing a fresh reload a few times and each time I get the same choices at boot up... Any help would be greatly appreciated... Apologies as well for my lack of Debian/Linux lingo... Hopefully this makes sense. Thanks |
Re: apt-get upgrade -u issue (newbie question)
So what's wrong? Select the first choice and boot.
The 'upgrade' shouldn't have had a bad effect on anything, except possibly the X windows if you use a proprietary driver and your system was set up to upgrade the kernel.
Re: apt-get upgrade -u issue (newbie question)
I guess there isn't anything wrong then... I was just going by the fact that the second choice at boot, the one showing the (single user only) wasn't available before I did the upgrade.
Thanks!
