DV Camera on Debian

Tags:

A lot of people seem to have this problem, a lot of solutions exist, but they don't seem to work. Using a dv camera on debian has been not entirely satisfactory. Every few months when I use the camera something does not work. Usually I can use the root account and then it works. This time I am stuck. A couple of weeks ago I compiles my own kernel (2.6.25) on Lenny, because the new firewire stack would not work at all. I used the old one and I could copy a film from the camera with kino. Then, yesterday, I wanted to do the same, but the camera was not recognized. I have not updated my own kernel since then. I tried a few older kernels, nothing seems to work. This is debug information I get from syslog. It is repeated every second or so.

Is there anyone who has an idea how to get to the problem apart from replugging the cable and rebooting?
Thanks for any help you can give me.
