2.6.25 linux kernel freezing

I use the 2.6.18 kernel (from the package) without problems. But now I installed the 2.6.25 package because I needed a new wireless driver, and when I use this kernel the system freezes often. It seems to be freezing specially often when I am using X, and less often in text mode. But it still freezes in text mode too (but xdm is still in the background, I haven t tried to disable X completelly). Calling Mozilla seems to be a specially critical operation for making the system lock up, but it also freezes even during boot.

I am trying to use 2.6.26, that I compiled from the kernel.org version using the config file from the 2.6.25 package, but it seems it is also freezing. I am using the amd64 architecture, in a compaq v6210br notebook.

Is this a known issue? Are there any known workarounds?

Re: 2.6.25 linux kernel freezing

What do you get in your logs at the time the freeze occurred? (can get it with syslog command after the freeze).
Posting the output at that time may help in diagnosis.
