Basic Newbie Reinstall QuestionCan I reinstall Debian Etch without destroying all the customized files and configurations on the disk? (eg: websites as virtualhosts, named zones, download archives, ...). I am on an AMD64 system with nVidia video and 2G RAM. Started with Debian Etch but the files are hosed up between Etch, Lenny and Sid which is why I need the reinstall. |
Re: Basic Newbie Reinstall Question
An install will always wipe out the root partition; you need to back up your data and your configuration files. Due to changes in the configuration files between versions of software, I'd recommend you manually check that each config file works as intended after reinstalling; do not automatically bring up a server process until you've tested that it reads its config file properly and does what you want.
