FOX News Abruptly Cuts Off Interview With an American Eyewitess to Georgian AggressionThe story? An American girl was visiting relatives in South Ossetia when Georgia attacked. The girl spent one night in a basement and then with the aid of Russian troops she fled with other refugees into Russia. FOX News decided to interview the eyewitness but abruptly cuts off the interview because the girl's aunt pointed out that it was Georgia and Saakashvili that was responsible for the war. Needless to say, FOX News didn't air the part of the girl thanking Russian soldiers for saving her life. See the story for yourself below: |
Re: FOX News Abruptly Cuts Off Interview With an American Eyewit
Everyone knows the Russians are the bad guys - who would believe the news if anyone said they were the good guys? After all, Georgia is not a super power so people wouldn't even think this newsworthy if Georgia were the aggressor. In our mind-addling TV world the rules are:
1. When the USA invades some backward little country like Afghanistan (you'd never think it was a HUGE country based on what you see on the news - would you) it's because we're the Good Guys (tm).
2. When Russia invades some country it's because they're the evil spawn of Satan the Communist.
Thanks to that bizarre monster that was called the Soviet Union, there are rather large Russian communities in many of the satellite states - Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Georgia, Uzbekistan, etc. Those people have decided to live there (after all, many have nothing back in Russia) but they may still think of themselves as Russians and they may not be popular with the natives. But, as with Israel and the unauthorized settlements, Russia will protect those enclaves of expatriots.
The "good war" in Afghanistan
Your point on Afghanistan especially hits home with me. Few Americans have any idea of its size and fewer still know that Afghanistan's population is larger than Iraq's.
But the information regarding Afghanistan that might have had the most impact -- if it were known by the general US population -- was the fact that the Taliban were willing to give up Osama bin Laden to be tried. The Afghans wanted only 2 things: to see some evidence and for bin Laden to be tried in an international court. The US, of course, refused and clueless American and NATO troops are dying needlessly for yet another criminal war.
Knowledge like that just wouldn't fit into the US propaganda of Afghanistan being a "good war".
