/dev/ttyS0 reset at top of every hour?

Hoping someone can help me here.

I have a Debian Etch 4.04a install w\xfce. I run a home automation program that initializes a device on /dev/ttyS0. I'm running this console program in an xterm for testing. At the top of every hour some process resets some of ttyS0's parms, including baud rate. This causes the home automation program to lose communication with the device on ttyS0. I can use stty (in another xterm) to set things back, but I cannot figure out how to find out what process is overwriting my ttyS0.

I'm guessing that udev, inetd, exim, or something is going out looking for a modem at the top of the hour, but I'm not certain.

auditd might do the trick, but it isn't available in the Etch depository.

This is just a simple file audit situation, but I can't figure out how to do this in Debian.

Thanks,

Rick
