Nvidia 8600 driver installation issue

I have an issue when installing the Nvidia driver for my 8600 GT card on Debian Etch 4.0 r4 x64.
It is so when it is installed it doesnt load the driver at all, i have tried to edit the xserver and select nvidia instead of nv among the drivers but it doesnt help because when i select nvidia the screen flash and i end up in the shell and being forced to go back to the xserver config and select the nv driver again.

How do i make the system to load the nvidia driver? Please help.

Have a look at the /var/log/Xorg.0.log to see why the driver is failing to run.

huh - pastebin isn't accepting any connections.

The log may have numerous entries; to make sure you have the shortest log you can delete the file, then: touch Xorg.0.log, then attempt to start X, then look at the log.
