how do I download a real audio stream?Hi, On its website (http://www.un.org/webcast/ga/61/gastatement20.shtml) The UN offers video streams of each representative speaking at the 61st General Assembly in real audio format. Since I have only dial-up, I really cannot watch that stuff live. I want to download some speeches and watch them comfortably. Here is, for example, the link to Hugo Chavez' speech: http://webcast.un.org/ramgen/ga/61/ga060920am.rm?start=01:02:20&end=01:26:10 Is there an application which allows me to download and save such a real audio stream? Thanks, VS |
Hi there again my friend.I
Hi there again my friend.
I use wget and mplayer for this, though the process is a little bit complicated.
Once you have the link, do this in a console eg
wget http://webcast.un.org/ramgen/ga/61/ga060920am.rm?start=01:02:20&end=01:26:10
This should create a file in your /home directory after a couple of seconds.
Open that file with a text editor, and then copy the line to another terminal (after closing the first) to read
mplayer -dumpstream rtsp://157.150.195.57:554/ga/61/ga060920am.rm?start=01:02:20&cloakport=80,554,7070
This will create a file called dump.stream and when finished can be renamed Chavezspeech.rm
edit: If that was all Greek to you (lol) have a look at this link:

Thanks for the tip. Looks like a good way to do it, but frankly, I rather stay clear from non-free aps (-: you know the hard time I gave mepis over that :-). Do you have any solution which does not involve mplayer?
(Did you get my email?)

Couldn't you just download
Couldn't you just download realplayer for Linux? I guess if you absolutely won't use non-free apps, it might be hard for you to do what you want to do.
Maybe streambox, streamripper?
Parakalo, Vees, and I got your email, I'll send the stuff on Monday.
I don't know of alternative ways to do this without mplayer. You might be lucky in that wget will extract the stream for you (it does on some sites), but I have found that mplayer is needed as the stream address is 'encrypted' into the http address.
Have a look at these, they use flashgot/streambox or streamripper

Re: how do I download a real audio stream?
So, in order to download the radio broadcast, or whatever you are after, download the file which, by clicking on it, opens your real audio player. In most of the cases, it's a .ram file. Now open the file with a simple text editor. There should be a link to a .rm file. Copy that link into the address bar of your browser and hit RETURN. Your download should start right on. BUT... this method is only working with links like http://...music.rm, a web browser can't download files like rtsp://...music.rm .
To download a file via the rstp protocol, one needs additional software. The "best" tools for this task are Flashget and Streambox VCR.
I recommend Flashgot, if something doesn't work then you might try VCR Streambox.
