Upgrading dpkg?

I run Debian Woody (got there with a dist-upgrade from Potato) but with some Sarge packages also installed, by mistake.
I can't install any source packages anymore since dpkg is at version 1.10.28 and the latest Woody dpkg-dev requires dpkg version 1.9.21. Initscripts and other critical stuff depend on dpkg and I'm afraid I could render the system useless if I uninstall them along with dpkg.
Is there any way of upgrading dpkg in this situation?
