Today's non-news in the news...Microsoft announce that VisDuh will have the ability to go to sleep and wake-on-LAN to install patches, potentially saving large corporations up to $70 in operating costs per desktop machine per year! Yeah right, like it will have that database filesystem and numerous other features that got the chop. Not only not a big deal, but MS haven't even implemented this yet. It should be simple - after all even Win2k can sleep and wake-on-LAN? Right? Well, sort of - people complain that the computer normally dies on wake-on-LAN. Of course the corporate marketeers have made it into politics long ago and there are a few shining examples of this in today's non-news: 1. Coondoooleeeeeeeeeeeeeza is going to Japan and South Korea to talk 'em into not entering a 'nukular' arms race. This is like going to Rome to tell the Pope that he's Catholic. Or telling a blind man that he can't see. Both South Korea and Japan have rejected nukes (and Dougie McArthur didn't even have to force that one on the japs) and there is absolutely no sign that they intend to build nukes. But Coondooooooleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeza's got to tell them "bildin nukes is bad shet, uh-huh". Some people might find this non-news comforting, but I'm tearing out my hair going "oh crap, these dumbasses are running the country"? 2. Dubbya's just signed his torture bill. Woohoo! Except that torture is referred to as "harsh interrogation". Ah, if only there were a god - I'd like to see him have some harsh words with Dubbyah. Maybe another harsh Nabisco biscuit will find its way into the White House. Dubbyah says he's proud to sign the bill because it's not every day you get to sign legislation that will save American lives. Uh-huh. Yeah. Righto. Hey dumbo - how about gun control? That'll save a lot of Americans. I like this insinuation that Americans will die at the hands of terrorists if Dubbyah doesn't sign his torture bill - Dubbyah's just saved America! Hallelujiah! He forgot to mention he's also saved the United Kingdom and Australia. I'm sure Tony Blair and John Howard will kindly remind Dubbyah as they lick his hairy ass. |
