Can't get Debian to boot for install

Hey, this is my first shot at any Linux software, so please bare with me. I have a core 2 duo processor (64 bit), so I downloaded the ia64 DVD version through bit torrent. I mounted it to a DVD and rebooted, but it would not take me to a menu. It just kept restarting until I removed the disk. I downloaded the same version again from an http and had the same issue. Finally, I tried the net installation using a minimal CD, but this time it tried to boot from the CD but then froze.

Can someone please help? {:(

what computer do you have?

Can you provide a manufacturer and model number? I have a Core Duo (not Core 2) but as far as I know this is a 32-bit machine.

ALSO - IA64 is for the Itanic (or was that Itanium). You want to try the x86_64, also known as AMD64/EMT64. The Intel IA64 family is not compatible with the Intel EMT64 family.

Custom built

I built the system myself, and the core 2 Duo is a 64 bit processor. I appreciate the tip. I will Give it a try and get back to you.
