Forums:

I'm using Kali and am quite new to the whole thing.

I'm trying to install TOR. I'm using Kali as a virtual machine inside Virtualbox, running on a Win7 host.

I've downloaded tor-browser-linux32-4.0.3_en-US.tar.xz then transferred the file to the Home folder.

I then ran command:

tar -xvJf tor-browser-linux32-4.0.3_en-US.tar.xz

(which is what Tor website told me to do)

But I get error message:

xz: (stdin): File format not recognized
tar: Child returned status 1
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

Can anyone help?

This is debianHELP ---where you can get help with Debian.

Kali might be "based" on Debian, but so is Ubuntu and dozens more distros. Those distros are DIFFERENT from Debian and have their own special bits.

You would be better to ask the Kali Linux Forums http://forums.kali.org/
