Forums:

We have a Debian 3.2.60-1+deb7u3 x86_64 running in the VMware ESXi 5 environment. It has been running all well since months but suddenly today it shut down and when tried to power it on it entered run level 0 while booting up and shut down again. We contacted VMware support but they say as the VM can be started ok in the recovery mode it is not an issue with the VM but with Debian itself.

After starting the Debian machine in recovery mode I checked the dmesg but there is nothing in it which indicates towards the shutdown, please find it attached and also the screen shot of the machine during boot up. Can you please suggest what could cause the debian machine to shutdown while booting up.

Thanks.
