Cannot login using GNOME, have to press Ctrl+Alt+F1

Hi! Thanks for taking the time to read this.
I seem to be having trouble logging into GNOME through the graphical login. I instead need to press Ctrl + Alt + F1, login, and then startx. It logs in just fine then. But when I type the password into the graphical environment, it just says: "Oh no! Something has gone wrong and the system can't recover." Newb here looking for some advice. Thanks a lot!

1) You could try reinstalling

1) You could try reinstalling the Display Manager
As Root
apt-get --reinstall install gdm3

2) You could try installing a diffeernt Display Manager
As Root
apt-get install lightdm

I managed to fix it

I fixed the issue by installing xfce instead of gnome and installing sna. thanks though.
