/etc/profile.d

I wanted to establish two variables permanently to solve a problem with Quagga vtysh

I created a file in '/etc/profile.d' called 'core.sh'

$ sudo bash -c 'cat << EOF > /etc/profile.d/core.sh

# Added for Quagga vtysh terminal problem in CORE
TERM="xterm"
VTYSH_PAGER="more"
EOF'

As the last 'if' statement in '/etc/profile' is supposed to read all '*.sh' files in this directory I assumed the variables would be set for all users including root when the system booted. Alas they do not appear.
