Getting the <> and | characters to work

Hello

I'm new to Linux but not new to UNIX. Of some strange reason the redirection characters (< > and |) does not work even when they works on tty 2.... Can someone help me with this?

Re: Getting the <> and | characters to work

Where do they not work? On tty 1, in an xterm? Are you using bash? I don't know where to start trouble shooting this problem, but maybe some more info will help get the ball rolling.

Re: Getting the <> and | characters to work

Hello.

It was in all terminal windows in the Gnome window it did't work. However, after clicking around in the menus, I found in "Applications -> DEsktop preferences -> Keyboard" a set up tool called Keyboard preferences. There, I could selcect layout and Keyboard model. In the model set default for me, the button was not active. When slecting the layout called "Generic 105key (Inlt) PC", this button, showed up and I now have the redirection keys

Thanks for your answer anyway
