CD CreateI am a newbe and need a little help with creating CD's. When I download the ISO files from the internet, Is there any special way I should download them so as not to corrupt them? I also need to know is there any special way to write the files to a CD? |
burning iso's
i personally have never had a download become corrupted. I would however suggest that you use a download manager which supports resuming downloads, in case your internet connection drops out. if you are using linux, you can use wget with the option -c
an iso is a fairly stand type of cd image, which should be supported by any cd burning software. An iso already has options set, such as the "boot disk" flag, so you do not need to select any particular options yourself.
as downloading several iso's can be quite time-consuming, I personally recommend the "net-installation" which requires just one (small) boot cd, and downloads the packages you need during installation. However, I would only recommend this if you have broadband.
ISO CD's
Thanks for your help I successfully created the CD's I needed and loaded the first one on my Computer.
Thanks

xcdroast
Actually xcdroast is only a GUI which uses another program (but it's far too easy to make mistakes doing CD burning via the command line). ISO9660 images on te internet normally have an md5sum on the same webpage - copy that string, then compare it with what you get for your dowloaded iso:
md5sum myfile.iso
A corrupted file is exceedingly rare when you use tools like wget; on the other hand, plain ol' mozilla/firefox and especially that awful InternetExplorer always screw up large downloads.
ISO CD's
Thanks very much with the advice. I downloaded and created all 15 CD's and loaded disk one on my computer with I believe no problems, I guess time will tell.
Thanks
